Procedures for Selection and Requirements:

Earn a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Be a Junior or Senior at Ottawa-Glandorf High School for at least 1 full semester.
Write a one page (typed) essay which will best present you and your accomplishments to the selection committee. The essay should focus on your leadership, scholarship, service, and character.
Write a 150 word essay detailing your plans for the future (college, etc.)
Procure recommendations from 3 teachers (1 current). Transfer students may fax or send forms to a previous district. The teachers will return these recommendations; the advisor will place them in your application folder.
Please note that all OGHS staff will have the opportunity to provide information to the Faculty Council on each applicant's leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
Complete the student activity form. Both school activities and ongoing community service are requirements for consideration for membership in NHS. You must demonstrate that you have significant school and community involvement and both must be verified. Include number of hours and a detailed description of each service activity. Include both school and community activities.
Complete all Confirmation and Verification forms. Place all the above in a folder and deliver to Mrs. Duling prior to the deadline.
Announcement for Selection: After the Faculty Council has selected the new members, an envelope will be given to each applicant with a letter stating whether the applicaiton was accepted.

Please involve your parents in the procedure for selection to insure that your paperwork is as complete as possible. The content, presentation, and completeness of the information are factors that the selection committee will take into consideration. You should be aware that completing the information forms does not automatically insure you membership; members are chosen by a selection committee of Ottawa-Glandorf High School staff. Students selected as Honor Society members are young men and women who have made commitments to organizations and have offered service to members of the community as well as students who maintain high academic standing.

The selection of applicants will be done by the Faculty Council after the applicants folders have been completed and turned in to the NHS Advisor. Mrs. Duling will then add to the folders the recommendations and present the applicants to the Faculty Council for selection.

Students who have been selected for membership will be announced according to tradition at the Induction Ceremony. Parents of selected students will be given prior notice so that they may attend the Induction Ceremony, which is tba
