Together We Learn, Together We Grow

Glendale Avenue will be closing next week.

Posted Date: 07/17/26 (11:12 AM)

Starting next week, Glendale Avenue will be closed to through traffic.  The temporary closures used during events at Titan Stadium have helped demonstrate how much safer it is for students, visitors, and participants when the street is not open to through traffic.  This has led the district and the Village of Ottawa to work toward the permanent closure of the street.

While we know road closures can be a hassle, this is a clear, proactive decision focused entirely on public and student safety.

Why is this section of Glendale Avenue closing?

  • Enhancing Public Safety: Currently, heavy pedestrian crowds and active vehicle traffic mix in the same space during events. This closure provides a permanent, safer solution.

  • Protecting Our Students: Glendale Avenue is frequently used as a high-speed cut-through between State Route 109 and State Route 15. Closing the street keeps non-local drivers out of a student driver and pedestrian zone.

  • Improving Accessibility: By closing this section, the school district will significantly expand nearby handicap-accessible parking, making it safer and much easier for our most experienced Titans to attend stadium events.

Two Phases for the closure.

  • Phase One: Work will start next week to install two sets of bollards next to both high school parking lot entrances on Glendale Avenue.  Students, parents, and visitors will be able to access the high school parking lot from State Route 15 and from State Route 109, but through traffic will not be permitted.

  • Phase Two: An additional set of removable bollards will be installed at the east end of the stadium.  These bollards will only be in place during games, events, or for other specific situations that may require access to the east parking lot entrance to be closed.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we build a safer environment for our community, students, and fans! 🏈 Let’s go, Titans!
